Biography
Nikos Lambrinos is a Professor of Geography Teaching at the School of Primary Education, Faculty of Education, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and President of the Hellenic digital earth Centre of Excellence (https://www.auth.gr/en/units/19861). Among other topics, his research interests include new methods in teaching Geography at schools, GIS and Remote Sensing as tools for teaching Geography, the future of school Geography in Europe and Web mapping.
Nikos has participated in 26 national and international projects and has a strong publication record. He has organized and participated in 68 national seminars in Geography teaching, GIS and web mapping. His website (http://labrinos.webpages.auth.gr/digital_geography) has been extensively used by Greek primary school teachers. He is also an active member of EUROGEO (European Association of Geographers - http://www.eurogeography.eu).
In 2012, he established the Hellenic digital earth Centre of Excellence (http://www.digital-earth.edu.gr), which is an educational and research Centre, supported by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. It promotes the use of geomedia in Geography teaching in all levels of education (especially primary and secondary) and its website (the maps branch) has more than 350000 visitors since January 2016.
He is a charter member of OSGeo since 2017.
Since 2021 he is the Manager of the Greek ESERO (European Space Education Resource Office) established in Greece by ESA.
