OSGeo IE is the Irish Local Chapter of OSGeo established in 2015.

About OSGeo Ireland

The Irish Local Chapter seeks to promote the development and use of free open-source software within the Irish geospatial community. The Local Chapter promotes the use and education of OSGeo software in Irish third-level institutions and industry. Participation is open to all members with an interest in Free Open Source Software.

In May 2017 the Irish Local Chapter hosted and organised the 1st Irish OSGeo Symposium which attracted over 80 delegates with Dr. Markus Neteler delivering the keynote speech. The 2nd Irish OSGeo Symposium will be held in May 2018 and will maintain its objective of providing a relaxed and stimulating environment to learn about OSGeo, meet people with similar interest in OSGeo and FOSS4G, and learn new skills in the workshops. There are lots of people using OSGeo software and tools in Ireland and this symposium will allow them to meet and re-connect as a community. Jeff McKenna will be the keynote speaker on the day.

Ireland holds an important position globally in terms of being a destination and home for many of the world’s leading software companies. The Irish Local Chapter intends to build on this capacity by striving each year to deliver an excellent international quality symposium which will build a strong and sustainable Irish OSGeo Community.
