Many OSGeo activities are only possible thanks to the support of our volunteers and sponsors. Organizations in a position to financially support our community are encouraged to do so at this time.
COVID-19 and Community
The COVID-19 pandemic is a great challenge world wide and has profoundly disrupted the OSGeo community, our members, and activities.
The most immediate impact is that OSGeo code sprints, conferences, hackathons and gatherings have been cancelled or postponed worldwide. This COVID-19 disruption affects us from both from a community standpoint (which thrives on face-to-face interaction) as well as financially (due to missed event sponsorship).
In a given year, OSGeo has over 40 events globally, which helps in outreach, community building and supporting projects. In 2020 nearly all our high profile conferences have been affected: FOSS4G 2020 (planned for Calgary, Alberta, Canada) cancelled, FOSS4G-E 2020 postponed, and OSGeo Community Sprint 2020 postponed.
Though our community is challenged we have shown resilience with several events adapting to online delivery. We are proud of our community establishing services to support COVID-19 efforts built with free and open source geospatial software.
OSGeo Initiatives
OSGeo has a number of ongoing initiatives:
OSGeo Events
There is a reduced number of events available for sponsorship this year. We encourage organizations to support events that have moved online:
- FedGeoDay 2020 (11-12 June 2020)
- FOSS4GUK Online 2020 (17 June 2020)
- Bolsena Code Sprint 2020 Online (29 June – 4 July 2020)
- QGIS North America 2020 virtual conference (17 July 2020)
- OSGeo Annual General Meeting 2020 (2020 Q3)
- For more information see upcoming events
We understand that a foss4g booth is a great chance to promote your organization and meet potential customers. While we cannot replace this experience, sponsoring online events offers great brand visibility, with foss4g videos serving as a reference for years to come.
Free and Open Source Projects
OSGeo accepts project sponsorship via invoice, GitHub Sponsors, or PayPal donations for our projects. We also recognize contributions directly to project specific organizations (such as gvSig Association and QGIS.org).
Local Chapters
Local chapters are active promoting the use of free and open source software with regional sponsorship opportunities:
Check with the local chapter near you for more information.
Sponsorship Recognition
OSGeo sponsorship benefits range from website placement, inclusion in promotional material, placement in presentations and press releases such as this one.
For more information on sponsorship benefits please visit our page on sponsorship or contact treasurer@osgeo.org.
