FOSS4G Europe 2024 Tartu final press release

FOSS4G Europe 2024 in Tartu was the eastern and northernmost (and as it turned out – largest) ever FOSS4G Europe conference to date. As the year 2024 draws to an end it is time to look back at the event one last time before handing over to the next LOC.

This was an event-packed week. Two days of workshops with the OGC European Innovation Days running in parallel in the next building, three days of presentations in five parallel tracks, two days of community sprint, BoF and B2B meetings, and many social events, including GeoChicas take Tartu!, the Ice-Breaker, Social Bytes, and (of course) “Friday Evening un-party”. But also the guided tours of the city and Setomaa excursion to the South-Eastern Estonia.

We, the Tartu LOC hope you enjoyed your stay in our hometown, had time to spend with your fellow community members and forged new friendships. With FOSS4G Europe in this part of the world for the very first time, we also hope that it showed the wider Estonian and Baltic geospatial community the FOSS4G spirit of co-operation and attitude of getting things done together.

FOSS4G Europe 2024 was powered by OSGeo, and co-organized by the Estonian Geoinformatics Society and University of Tartu Landscape Geoinformatics Lab.
